"Bring On The Pumpkins!"

Now that the dog days of summer are almost over and school has started back up, it's time to do a little decorating to welcome Fall.
Fall has always been one of my favorite times of the year. As the leaves and acorns begin to fall, the morning air feels a little crisper and sweaters are required, I let the rich hues of the season dictate my colors for decorating.

I get plain giddy for pumpkins, I love to fill my home with these bountiful beauties. Large black urns planted with purple, yellow and orange pansies are topped with a large pumpkin. Porch steps are lined with clusters of pumpkins in an assortment of colors and sizes -stems intact of course- and lanterns are tucked in here and there for a warm autumn glow at night.
Now my home is ready for Fall, and I am drenched in the autumn colors I am so drawn to.

So now is the time to stop in and visit our store because we are dressed to impress and ready to give you wonderful new ideas for dressing your home for the season.

Hanging Artwork

Artwork undoubtedly adds instant color, and personality to your home. Collecting artwork takes time and patients. I do not believe artwork should be about the artist or its increase of value, but about what it means to you. Here are a few simple tips to help you display the art in your home.

When deciding how to hang your pictures, remember balance is very important, as well as knowing when to Lette eye rest. A tall space over a buffet or an entryway may call for a single large painting, but that wall that goes on forever over the sofa can handle a large grouping of artwork. The artwork should be different shapes and sizes, but with similar themes, like a collection of botanical mixed with landscapes, or English hunt dogs alongside hunt scenes.

Don't be afraid to mix different frames either; its ok to pair black with gold and burled wood. You can even add wall scones, antlers or plates in with your artwork to add more interest. But whatever you do make sure to have fun with it and that it is something you will enjoy looking at for a long time.

" Prints Charming "

Mix and Match Prints with Bold Solids

Little prints. Big prints. Bold prints coupled with softer florals. This season prints are all grown up and yet still fun, whimsical, and always friendly.

You will notice exotic patterns that speak of far off lands - to little, sweet princess prints mixed with bold swatches of color. Mix them up and create your distinct medley of style and tone.

Bring in furniture with clean modern lines to add a little contrast for a very refreshing look this spring and summer.

"Birds Of A Feather"

Flock Together Feathers are everywhere this season. From feather clips for your hair, to high end fashion-feathers are flying down runways.

And what are feathers without birds? The world is bursting at the seams with all things aviary.

Peacock to finch, large and small-feathers are fun, natural and just a bit mysterious.

Our feathered friends are firmly represented this season with soft rugs made with the lightest looking feather patterns.

Keep the natural aspects and couple this with spring greens, copper, warm gray colors.

" Poppy Talk "

Show Spring Who Is Boss Crisp, fresh, and just in time for Spring; poppies are everywhere. Whether it is just the poppy color paired with a print or the poppy pattern, they brighten up everything-and fast! Get really girly and mix red/pink graphic floral prints with orange. These colors in combinations are warm, inviting and spontaneous. They brighten small spaces and rooms that have little natural light. Gone are dark dusty reds-in are the hotter, more vibrant, zingy-red hues. These new red/pink colored flowers are seen everywhere from bold graphic prints to softer water colored fabrics and pillows.

"Vitamin C"

Sizzling Citrus A sharp citrus color is rendered now in a brighter shade, pulling out of its old fashioned shell.

Tangerine, Georgian yellow, and snappy greens-are paunchy and confident. Fill a room with touches of citrus colors and feel the instant energy boost. Many patterns this season are neither fruit nor flower, but organic, whimsical shapes that have just a touch of bohemian flair.

"Blue Mood"

Sharper Blues with Metallics Your favorite denim jeans. Still lake waters on a sunny afternoon. The night sky that surrounds twinkling stars on a summer night. Blue transcends us from trend to nostalgia and then back again. Don't think the new blues are anything dull and expected; they are anything but.

They are bold jewel tones and brave indigos and coupled with eye popping metallics and white. They travel well through any room in your house.

Watch out for our inspirational new blues. They stimulate, revive, and are ready for anything!

" Decorating With Accessories "

Keep it simple - avoid clutter.

Use what you love.

Know your focal point.

Group collections - don't scatter.

Consider style, color, balance, scale, visual weight, textures

Match object to space - tall with tall, narrow with narrow, wide with wide

Odd numbers work best unless a in strictly traditional setting.

Repeat your accent color around the room.

Accent colors can be more vivid.

Layer pieces with varying heights.

Extend a piece of furniture by placing wall art above or beside it to draw attention upward or outward.

Keep wall art at eye level - avoid hanging too high (a common mistake)

A large wall calls for one large piece or a group of pieces.

In wall groupings, keep pieces within a few inches of each other - use craft paper to arrange on the floor and then mark the wall for placement.

Mirrors should reflect something of beauty.

Plants are great fillers on shelves and tables.

Large plants soften room edges when placed in corners or behind furniture.

Area rugs define your space, add texture, color, pattern and warmth.

Look at each area as a vignette or snapshot - check for balance, each piece as part of a whole.

Become aware of your personal definition of BEAUTY and use items that will bring pleasure....a smile to your face or happy memories to mind - after all, this is YOUR HOME.
